Bumps in the road

Bringing The Cobble Wobble back hasn’t been easy, here’s a look at some of the challenges we’ve tackled along the way.

After the 2012 event, life took over, and full-time commitments meant we had to put The Cobble Wobble on pause. Our plans to relaunch in summer 2022 began taking shape in 2021, with meetings involving longterm event sponsors, then further meetings involving the Frome Town Council, and new potential partners. Unfortunately, in early 2022, our main sponsor withdrew due to unforeseen circumstances, forcing us to pivot our focus to 2023.

In December 2022, we faced another unexpected challenge when a third party attempted to trademark the Cobble Wobble name with the intention of hosting cycling events. We discovered their application in January 2023.

As the event’s original creators, sole organisers, and custodians of all the goodwill associated with the name, we were devastated and had to navigate a lengthy legal process to retain the rights and avoid a complete rebrand.

It wasn’t until late 2023 that we successfully secured the name, but the delay prevented us from hosting the event that year and significantly impacted our plans for 2024.

Adding to the hurdles, 2024 brought significant challenges across the bicycle industry, with tightened budgets making it difficult to secure sponsors. Despite the obstacles, we stayed optimistic, buoyed by the unwavering enthusiasm surrounding the event. The question was never if we could bring it back, but when the stars would align.

We can’t wait to bring The Cobble Wobble back to Catherine Hill, infused with all the excitement, energy, and community spirit that makes it so special.

Thank you for your patience and support
